Easter weekend opening hours: When Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and others will be trading

The Easter long weekend is upon us and so too are restricted trading hours at major Australian retailers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

People hoping to get their hands on enough supplies to see them through their at-home celebrations will need to plan ahead, particularly with Good Friday and Easter Sunday being restricted trading days.

Here is what can be expected to be open and when throughout the long weekend.

What’s open on Good Friday?

Many Coles stores will be open from 11am until 5pm in NSW on Good Friday, while most will be closed entirely in Victoria, with those still open to trade from 1pm to 10pm.

Coles in Queensland will be closed on Good Friday, as will those in South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.

In the Northern Territory and in the ACT, Coles will be open on Good Friday between 11am and 5pm.

Woolworths will be open in most NSW stores from 11am to 5pm apart from a few exceptions.

Woolies will be mostly open in the ACT on Good Friday, with most to trade from 11am to 5pm, while in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and South Australia most stores will be closed completely.

In Tasmania, Woolworths stores will be closed on Good Friday, as will they be in Queensland.

Aldi, Kmart, BigW and Dan Murphy’s will all be closed nationwide on Good Friday.

Bunnings stores will be closed across Australia on Good Friday, which means the last day fo tradesmen and health and emergency service workers to take advantage of the dedicated shopping hour before the weekend is Thursday.

The exclusive shopping hour Bunnings offers is only applicable on weekdays, not weekends.

Easter Saturday trading hours

For people who missed out on getting items ahead of the weekend, Saturday will probably be the best bet in getting in some last minute Easter shopping.

Bottle shops including Dan Murphy’s will return to regular trading for Saturday, and most Woolworths and Coles stores across the country will be open with slightly varying hours.

Aldi stores will be open nationwide from 8.30am to 7pm, Big W will also be open from 9am to 6pm in most locations, while Kmart will open at 8am and close either at 5pm or 8pm, depending on the store.

Coles will be open at 7am and finish late - either at 10pm or 12am - in most stores, but some may open later and close earlier if they are inside bigger shopping centres.

The same applies for Woolworths stores on Easter Saturday, with most trading regular hours and opening at either 7am, 8am or 9am, then closing at 5pm, 6pm, 9pm or 10pm.

Shoppers should check their local store’s hours before leaving home to avoid any disappointment

Bunnings Warehouse is open across Australia on Easter Saturday, however customers are advised to check their local stores to find out what time they open on the Bunnings website.

Opening hours Easter Sunday

All Aldi stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, while most Coles and Woolworths stores will be open with exception of a few locations that will be closed entirely.

Coles at Sydney’s Brighton Le Sands location will be closed on Easter Sunday, as will Woolworths’ Sydney Metro stores on George Street, in Haymarket and Strawberry Hills.

Most non-Metro Woolworths stores will be open for regular trading hours, with those in Melbourne to trade from 8am to 9pm and Brisbane locations to open from 9am to 6pm.

Canberra’s Woolies stores will be open 9am to 6pm too, while most stores in Darwin will open at their regular time and close at either 8pm or 10pm.

In Adelaide, Woolworths stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, while most stores in Western Australia will be open from either 10am or 11am and close at 5pm.

Woolworths won’t be closing any stores in Hobart for Easter Sunday, with the Sandy Bay location opening at 6am and not closing until 12am and others trading from 8am until 9pm.

Coles in NSW will be open in most locations from 9am to 6pm, while regular opening hours will apply in the Northern Territory, and in Queensland stores will predominantly open from 9am to 6pm.

South Australian Coles stores will mostly be shut on Easter Sunday with the exception of a few including its Berri location and on Grote Street in Adelaide which will open from 11am to 5pm.

All Tasmanian Coles stores will trade as usual on Sunday, as will those in Victoria and the ACT, while most stores in Western Australia will open but with reduced hours.

In NSW, all Bunnings stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, however across other states and territories, stores will be open. It is again advised customers check the Bunnings website for trading hours at their local store.

Easter Monday opening hours

Coles will mostly be open nationwide for Easter Monday, including in Western Australia where stores will be predominantly open from 8am to 6pm, with a few stores - like Narrogin - being closed.

Victorian Coles locations will be open for their regular Monday trading hours, as will stores in the ACT and Tasmania, with South Australian locations opening but mostly for reduced hours like 11am to 5pm.

Queenslanders will be able to shop at most Coles stores from 9am to 6pm, except at the Goondiwindi store which will be shut, while stores in the Northern Territory will trade as usual.

Coles stores across NSW will mostly open between the hours of 9am to 6pm, except in Crows Nest in Sydney which will trade from 7am to 10pm.

Aldi stores in NSW, the ACT and Victoria will open from 8.30am until 7pm, while stores in Queensland will open from 9am to 6pm, and those in South Australia will mostly be open from 11am to 5pm.

Western Australian Aldi stores will open predominantly from 8.30am to 7pm, with exception of a few stores that will open later and close earlier.

Woolworths stores will trade mostly as usual for Easter Monday in NSW, with the same applying for Victoria locations except for Metro locations which will be closed.

Stores in South Australia will be open but have reduced hours with most opening between 11am and 5pm, while Western Australian locations will mostly operate with their regular Monday hours.

Canberra Woolworths stores will also mostly have regular hours and open from 7am to 10pm, with Northern Territory locations also trading with their normal Monday hours.

Woolies in South Australia will be open but with reduced hours and most stores opening between 11am and 5pm, except the Mt Barker store which will be open from 8am to 8pm.

Tasmanian stores will mostly be open for regular Monday hours, which is mostly from 7am to 10pm, while in Queensland stores will open from 9am to 6pm, except the Tank St Metro which will trade from 10am to 4pm.
