Dreamers Protests Outside Jared and Ivanka's Washington Home
The mother of two recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program joined a protest outside Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s Washington home on Tuesday evening over reports President Donald Trump planned to scrap the scheme.
An estimated 800,000 people who were brought to the United States illegally by their parents were granted protection from deportation under the Obama-era progam. Many of the children and young adults who enrolled in the DACA plan identify themselves as Dreamers, a term coined by the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (Dream) Act, which was intended to give them a path to legal residency but was repeatedly rejected by Congress.
