Dozens of Pro-Palestine Protesters Arrested at University of Texas at Austin

More than 50 people were arrested at a pro-Palestine protest at the University of Texas at Austin on the evening of Wednesday, April 24, according to local reports citing an attorney assisting those arrested.

Footage captured by Nick Sortor shows protesters chanting as police officers move through the crowd. The officers can then be seen pushing the crowd back as mounted police arrive on the scene.

The protest, which was convened by the Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC), began around noon on Wednesday. University of Texas police issued a dispersal order about six hours later and confirmed an all-clear about four hours after that.

According to George Lobb, an attorney with the Austin Lawyers Guild, about 54 people were arrested in relation to the protest and were being held at the Travis County Jail.

The PSC has planned a walkout on Thursday demanding the release of the arrested protesters. Credit: Nick Sortor via Storyful
