Double up: How a woman's lucky numbers won $4.8m lottery prize twice

A Melbourne mum couldn’t believe her luck when she scooped $4.8 million twice in the same lottery draw.

The woman, from Langwarrin, won the coveted first prize of The Lott’s Set for Life twice in Friday’s draw after she and her husband doubled up on their ticket to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

Doubling up the $20,000 a month for the next 20 years, she will eventually rake in an impressive $9.6million.

It was the first time since Set for Life began, that there were two first prize winners in a single draw, let alone from the same person. The chances of winning just one first prize are over 38 million to one.

“You’re really serious? Is this a joke? It’s just incredible,” she said when finding out on Monday she had won.

“We don’t really do much for our wedding anniversary these days so I thought why not buy some Set for Life tickets and that could be our present.

“We use marked numbers that include the dates of our wedding anniversary and kids birthdays – special dates that’s what they are.”

The mother revealed the family hadn’t had chance to celebrate their gargantuan win but planned to head on their “dream” holiday at the nearest opportunity.

“We’ll be planning a holiday! Ever since we got married it’s been our dream to go to Port Douglas. We’ve never been able to but that’s something we can certainly look at doing in the future.”

While the win will ensure financial security in the future, she revealed another immediate purchase will be a new car after the family’s current vehicle is “on the way out”.

The woman’s tickets matched all eight numbers in Set for Life draw 1016.

Her lucky numbers with sentimental significance were 2, 17, 34, 14, 4, 20, 9 and 35.

The daily draw guarantees up to four first prize winners for correct entries, while additional smaller divisional prizes can be won from second to eighth prize by selecting a combination of the 8 winning numbers and 2 bonus numbers drawn.
