Dog attack: Boy,10, savagely mauled by out-of-control dog outside his home in Walsall
A ten-year-old boy was savagely mauled by a dog as he played outside his home in Walsall in the latest dog attack to hit the UK.
In the shocking video, the boy is seen kicking a football outside his home before the leaps on him.
The dog clamps onto his arm for up to thirty seconds before two women rush to the child’s aid.
After trying to prise the animal’s jaw off the child, one of the adults waves down a taxi before others come over to rescue the boy.
The boy was taken to hospital where he was treated for a series of bite marks across his right arms while a woman, believed to be the owner, has been arrested and released with a caution. Local police said the dog is to be put down following the incident.
Gohar Siddique, the boy’s father, who shared the horrifying video told Birmingham Live: “I just want to make sure this doesn’t happen to other people. This should not be happening to young children.”
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Bentley Drive in Walsall on Wednesday, September 13, to reports of a disorder and that a child had been bitten by a dog. The ten-year-old was taken to hospital to be treated for bite marks on his arm.
"The dog was seized from the location. We believe the dog managed to get out of its address without the owner knowing.
"On Thursday, September 14, we arrested a woman in her sixties on suspicion of possession of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. She has since been released with a caution and has given up the dog to be humanely destroyed."
Following a series of dog attacks across the country, Rishi Sunak has said the Government will ban the American XL Bully dog breed by the end of the year.
On Thursday a man was killed in Stonnall after he was mauled by two dogs and last weekend an 11-year-old girl was injured following a separate dog attack in Birmingham.
The family of a four-year-old boy told how a XL Bully savagely attacked him on Monday as he was playing in the park with his brother in Canning Town, east London.
Announcing the ban on the dog breed, Mr Sunak said in a video released on X, formerly known as Twitter: “The American XL Bully dog is a danger to our communities, particularly to our children.
“I share the nation’s horror at the videos we’ve all seen. Yesterday we saw another suspected XL Bully dog attack, which has tragically led to a fatality.
“It’s clear this is not about a handful of badly-trained dogs. It’s a pattern of behaviour and it cannot go on.”
