Police are investigating whether a video circulating on social media showing a cyclist being struck by a car is linked to two separate hit-and-run incidents in Melbourne.

The footage shows the cyclist being with such force that the car’s front passenger side window shatters.

Victoria Police Inspector Scott Dwyer said on Tuesday police believed the video was linked to two separate hit and runs in Melbourne’s southeast as police try to find the person who filmed the video.

“Those images we’ve seen online are disgusting,” he said.

The footage emerged online after a 51-year-old cyclist was involved in a collision with an unidentified vehicle on Beach Rd, near Charman Rd, in Cheltenham about 5.20am on Tuesday.

The rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Victoria Police were told the car failed to stop.

A short time later a second cyclist, a 72-year-old man, was also involved in a collision on Beach Rd in Beaumaris near Tramway Parade.

The man was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police will allege the vehicle involved in the second crash also failed to stop to assist the rider.

Police were later called to Central Ave, Black Rock, after an allegedly stolen Holden Astra was found about 8.50am on Tuesday.

Police are investigating whether the car was involved in either collision.
