'Disgusted' dad hits out at cyclists for crude behaviour outside his window

A Melbourne father is “absolutely disgusted” after claiming cyclists routinely urinate in bushes outside his home.

Romeo Busuttil, who lives in Bonbeach in the city’s southeast, told Yahoo News nearly “every weekend” or “public holiday” grown men were urinating in bushes across the road from his house.

“You can see the stream and everything,” Mr Busuttil said.

“I can’t imagine a grown man needing to do that in public.”

The father added the urinating was in view of his two children aged 7 and 10 who sit in the lounge room watching cartoons.

Sometimes the cyclists queue.

“I’m not sure if it’s a designated cyclist meeting place, but it’s just not on,” he said.

“It’s inappropriate.

“It’s been happening for about two years. I’ve called out to them and some apologise, but most of the time I’m ignored.”

Mr Busuttil said he could not understand why the cyclists did not use public toilets at nearby Carrum and Bonbeach train stations.

“These guys are riding great distances and surely they pass public toilets,” he said.

“It’s absolutely disgusting. Cyclists tend to be an educated bunch. They’re not ferals.

“They have to have a level of self-control.”

The father said he intended on asking the council to remove the shrubs in the hopes it would deter cyclists from peeing.

Bicycle Network chief executive Craig Richards told newspaper Moorabbin Kingston Leader most cyclists did not pee in public, but urged those who do to find a proper toilet.
