‘Destroyed my life’: Revenge porn plot backfires on UK teenager

A British teenager trying to “clear her name” over a stolen coat is facing a potential two-year jail term after a revenge porn plot blew up in her face.

Abigail Stringfellow, 19, photographed herself and a female friend taking part in a threesome with another man and later sent the images to her friend’s partner, a court has heard.

The Manchester local was bitter about a stolen coat and sent out the images in an effort to spite her friend, unaware of the legal repercussions and danger she was putting her friend in. She has since admitted to disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress.

Her friend, who can’t be named as she was only 17-years-old at the time, told the court that “Abigail's actions have destroyed my life”.

“She has humiliated me, embarrassed me and brought about the end of my relationship. I hate her for what she has done. I want her to know what her actions have led to," she said.

The prosecuting attorney Laura Taylor said the teenage victim engaged in the sexual encounter with Ms Stringfellow and an unknown male on April 20 and as a result of the pornographic content, was attacked by her disgruntled partner.

“He requested that she (17-year-old) attended his home address after she finished work. She did and at that time she was subject to a violent attack by him,” Ms Taylor added.

“He said that the defendant had shown him three images of the victim engaging in sexual encounters at the time that he and the victim were still in a relationship.”

Despite admitting to sharing the content, Ms Stringfellow’s lawyer, Matthew Wallace, denied that the victim asked for the images to be deleted

“Miss Stringfellow was accused of being a thief and became very angry, and contacted her boyfriend to explain where the jacket had come from and he said he didn't believe her so she said she could send proof that the victim had been unfaithful in the past,” Mr Wallace said.

"She was trying to clear her name relating to the theft and she was angry. They are graphic images. She didn't anticipate that the victim would come to physical harm."

Ms Stringfellow is expected to be sentenced at a later date.
