Delivery driver caught eating customer's order

A takeaway driver in India has been sacked after footage of him tucking into a customer’s food order went viral.

Footage captured in Madurai, in the south of the subcontinent, shows the driver in a Zomato T-shirt, relaxing on his scooter and tucking into the food from boxes before resealing the containers and returning them to his delivery bag.

He then pulls out a new piece of tape to reseal the bags before carrying on with the delivery.

The video has been viewed more than 10,000 times on social media and the firm has now apologised for the man’s actions.

The delivery company insisted it has a “zero tolerance policy” towards tampering and has fired the delivery driver in question.

In a statement Zomato acknowledged the video suggested the man was eating food meant for customers.

“We have spoken to him at length and while we understand that this was a human error in judgement, we have taken him off our platform,” the company said.

The firm has promised to soon introduce “tamper-proof tapes” and “educate their delivery fleet” as a further precaution against food tampering.
