Dead body found floating in water at popular Aussie beach

Stunned beachgoers have discovered a dead body floating in the water off a popular Sydney beach.

Police were called to Little Manly Beach at around 3pm on Friday and launched an operation to recover the body, which is still underway.

Photos published by the Manly Observer show officers standing at a fenced lookout, with one of them pointing to a spot in the water.

The person has yet to be identified and the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated, NSW Police told Yahoo News Australia. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

According to the Manly Observer, the deceased appears to be a man. The publication also understands kayak debris washed up on Little Manly Beach on Friday, but it is not known if it is connected to the dead body.

Earlier this week, police launched an air and land search after receiving reports of a body floating in the water near Long Reef, about 12kms north of Little Manly.

The search was later abandoned after it was revealed the body was actually a buoy, the publication reports.
