Shocking dashcam footage shows motorbike rider thrown through the air

Dramatic footage has shown the moment a motorbike rider flew through the air after being struck by a car from behind.

The motorcyclist was travelling down Gold Coast Highway in Mermaid Beach, on the Queensland Gold Coast, just before 9.15pm (local time) on Wednesday, police said.

In video broadcast by Nine News, the man appeared to hit his head on a pole before jumping to his feet and running down the street.

Members of the public pursued him on foot and eventually caught up with him, managing to hold him down until police arrived.

A woman who collided with the motorbike with her car described the incident as “very intense”.

“It was very intense… the side of my car shook, I thought he was injured for sure,” she told the network.

The man, a 28-year-old identified by Nine News as Luke Davie, was arrested and charged with 10 offences.

He faced charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possessing drugs, possessing property with the purpose of committing a drug offence, possessing utensils and evasion, Queensland Police said.

The man, from Murwillumbah, also was charged with unlicensed driving, driving an unregistered car as well as an uninsured car, and a charge relating to registration offences.
