'Waited 332 days for this': Daniel Andrews' touching reunion with his mum

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews has posted a heartwarming picture of the moment he reunited with his mum after almost one year apart.

Mr Andrews published the image on his Facebook and Instagram on Thursday with the caption “waited 332 days for this”.

The Premier had been prevented from visiting his mum, Jan Andrews, who lives a couple of hours away from Melbourne in Wangaratta, by bushfires that plagued the state last year before the strict coronavirus lockdown restrictions told hold of Melbourne.

The picture shows Jan and Mr Andrews sitting across from each other in her yard. Both wore face masks.

The proud mum told ABC last month that she had watched all of her son’s daily Covid-19 press conferences.

“I have watched every press conference, and some days I have thought, ‘yes you look okay’, other days I’ve thought, ‘Daniel you’re looking very tired’,” she said, according to the Herald Sun.

“But he’s strong, and he has a responsible job and he has a wonderful wife, and the rest is history.”

Mr Andrews’ social media pages were inundated with users urging the premier to enjoy his time with his family after a rough year.

“Hope you had a good time with your mother after so long. You are such a brave and determined person and we are so grateful to have you as Victoria’s premier,” one woman wrote.

“How beautiful, enjoy every minute. This virus has made us all realise how the simple things like family matter the most,” another woman said.

Another commenter said she had been able to see her son for the first time in seven months.
