Crystal Helfner credits MeToo movement with understanding self-worth
Crystal Hefner learned a lot about her self-worth through the #MeToo movement.
The blonde beauty – who was married to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner until his death aged 91 in 2017 – has stopped being a “people-pleaser” and realises the way she was treated by her late husband and his friends was often not acceptable.
She told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “When you have self-worth and self-love, that’s a power that can’t be taken from you.
“Respect yourself, love yourself and don’t tolerate anyone disrespecting you.
“It’s only in the past few years that I’m learning to have those boundaries because I was just a people=pleaser.
“The #MeToo movement helped me justify that it wasn’t OK how Hef’s friends treated people, how Hef treated people.
“Now, I pay close attention to how a person treats me, how they treat other people, how they speak about women especially. If there’s any hint of misogyny, I’m done.”
A “romantic at heart”, Crystal has found love again with a man she met on Raya six months ago, who she praised as being “very kind and normal and respectful”.
She added: “It’s so nice to be around someone who’s healthy and secure with themselves.
“I needed someone who would make me feel safe [and feel] I’m very special to them, that they care about my wants and needs.”
But Crystal is keen to take things slowly as the house she bought three years ago “finally feels like home”.
She said: “I love my own space.
“It doesn’t feel as though I’m just visiting now. The mansion never felt like a home. I had no privacy there.”
