Couple lying on road watching lunar eclipse run over by police car

A police officer has run over two people who were lying on a road watching a lunar eclipse.

West Palm Beach Police in Florida told The Palm Beach Post the officer was patrolling a park and driving at about 8km/h on Monday about 11.30pm when he hit the pair.

The pair, said to be a man and a woman both aged 24, were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Because the park was “extremely dark”, officials believe they were trying to watch the Super Blood Wolf Moon lunar eclipse when they were run over.

The area where the pair were run over, a road near the Apoxee Wilderness Trail, was closed to the public at the time of the incident, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

The officer was placed on administrative leave.
