Couple brutally attacked after leaving bar
Police are appealing for help from the public after a 22-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and a 25-year-old man walking with her was punched in the head.
Authorities were told the couple was approached by unknown men while walking along a footpath on Kosciuszko Road, Jindabyne, opposite Foreshore Park, about 1.30am on Thursday.
The attack happened shortly after they left a nearby bar.
The man was knocked unconscious after being punched in the head. The woman was then sexually and physically assaulted by one of the men, police said.
When the 25-year-old man regained consciousness he tried to help the woman but was assaulted again.
He managed to flag down a passing car and the unknown men fled.
The man and woman were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious facial injuries.
The woman was then taken to Canberra Hospital for examination and treatment. The man was transported to Cooma Hospital.
The Monaro Police District Commander said locals welcomed visitors but would not tolerate acts of violence.
Acting Superintendent Sandra Green said: “The Snowies is a popular destination at this time of year, and we have an increased police presence to ensure everyone who visits can enjoy our ski fields and surrounds safely and without fear of violent or anti-social behaviour.”

Strike Force Buckeridge has been established by detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad and Monaro Police District to investigate the incident.
Detectives are asking for help to identify a man who might be able to assist with inquiries.
He is described as being about 180cm tall with a solid build. It is believed he was wearing a baggy, light-coloured hooded jumper.
Authorities are urging those who travelled through the area in the early hours of Thursday to check their dash camera.
“We would also like to speak to anyone who may have been out earlier on Wednesday evening and noticed something suspicious – or someone acting suspiciously,” Detective Acting Superintendent Tom Barnes said.
