Coronation Street newcomer Denny threatens Bernie over her secret

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's new villain Denny has taunted Bernie Winter over a dark secret from her past.

Paul Foreman's father has arrived in Weatherfield to reunite with his son after hearing him speaking about his Motor Neurone Disease during an appearance on Amy Barlow's new radio show.

Bernie has always tried to warn her children against reconnecting with their father, as viewers know he was violent towards Paul as a child.

In Wednesday's (May 1) episode, Denny confronted Bernie outside the cafe for answers on why he'd never been told that his son is dying.

In her panicked hope of keeping Denny away, she told a damning lie by pretending that the interview was a recording and that Paul had since died.

Denny refused to believe Bernie and followed her to the flat, where he found Paul alive and his daughter Gemma shocked by his reappearance.

Bernie and Gemma both tried to keep Denny away from his son, but Paul agreed to go for drinks with his father to clear the air.

Denny tried to make out that he'd changed his ways long ago and was deeply sorry for the way he'd treated Paul as a child.

The father-and-son duo proceeded to get considerably drunker, leading Jenny Connor to ask them both to leave the Rovers Return due to belligerent behaviour.

By the time Denny brought his son back home, Bernie and Gemma were both horrified to see that Paul had got drunk with his dad.

As Gemma tried to help clean up Paul after being sick on himself, Denny made a hasty retreat. Bernie warned Denny that she wasn't buying that he simply wanted to reconnect with his kids.

"[Paul and Gemma] might think I'm a terrible parent but I ain't got nothing on you," Denny snapped back. "Oh, actually, I have got something on you! We wouldn't want that to get out, would we?"

Will Denny reveal this dark secret?
