Cops shocked by speeding, drunk driver
Police have busted a driver who was speeding, drunk and on a suspended licence with four children, including a toddler on a woman’s lap, inside the car.
The man was clocked doing 171km/hr – more than 60km over the speed limit – in Pentland Hills on the Western Highway northwest of Melbourne about 11.30pm on Good Friday.
Moorabool Highway Patrol members pulled the man over and realised the man’s licence had already been suspended.
“The Craigieburn driver was then breath-tested, leaving officers shaking their head when he returned an alleged reading of .107,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
His vehicle was immediately impounded and he is expected to be charged on summons with traffic offences.
The incident is part of Operation Nexus, the Victoria-wide road policing operation designed to target impaired driving speed, distraction, fatigue and seatbelt noncompliance in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria in an effort to reduce road trauma.
Police could be anywhere, anytime this Easter.
Operation Nexus runs until 11.59pm on Monday April 1.
