Cops probe sudden ‘violent’ death
The death of a man whose body was discovered at his home in the Sunshine Coast hinterland on Saturday is being treated as a potential murder.
Queensland Police detectives have launched a homicide investigation following the sudden “violent” death of 69-year-old man Christopher Gwinn in the Crystal Waters community in Conondale.
Detective Inspector Christopher Toohey said the retired teacher’s aide was found dead by concerned neighbours who went to check on him after he missed an appointment.
Police were then called to the home on Kilcoy Lane about 4pm.
“Christopher is a well liked member of the Crystal Waters community, who are shocked and saddened over his death,” Inspector Toohey told reporters on Sunday.
“Christopher’s family has been notified and are distraught with the circumstances of his death.”
Police believe Mr Gwinn was “the victim of a violent offence” but Inspector Toohey refused to disclose further details at such an early stage of the investigation.
“At this time, we’re trying to piece together all parts of Chris’s life,” he said.
“We’re speaking to all friends and relatives to assist us with piecing everything together.”
With an early forensic examination of the crime scene underway, police are yet to determine exactly when Mr Gwinn died.
Inspector Toohey said someone known to Mr Gwinn was helping police with their inquiries but he wouldn’t confirm the nature of their relationship or if the person had been arrested.
At this stage, no charges have been laid.
Police are urging anyone who has been in the area with dashcam or CCTV footage from the past week to contact them.
