A 16-year-old boy has been charged after he was allegedly spotted driving a stolen vehicle just moments before he crashed into two cars, including one that had an off-duty officer inside.

The teen first came to the attention of police when he was allegedly seen “driving erratically” in Carrum, in Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs about 6.40pm on Tuesday.

The boy then allegedly crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of Nepean Highway and Maury Rd in Chelsea before fleeing from the scene.

The teen was chased down by the off-duty officer and police officers, who arrested him near the crash.

The boy was taken to hospital under police guard.

Victoria Police said the boy has since been charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and other driving related offences.

The teen has been remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
