A fatal collision on a major freeway in Melbourne’s south east has caused commuter chaos amid peak hour traffic as authorities close all city bound lanes.

A pedestrian was killed by a truck on the Frankston Fwy in Seaford about 5.30am on Wednesday.

The man died at the scene and is yet to be identified.

The truck driver is assisting police as they investigate the exact circumstances of the collision.

City bound lanes on the Frankston Fwy between Frankston-Dandenong Rd and the Mornington Fwy have been closed.

VicTraffic is advising motorists to detour early to avoid delays.

Commuters should consider using Cranbourne Rd and the Peninsula Link to reach the Mornington Peninsula Fwy or EastLink and the Nepean Highway to reach Carrum.
