Coles teams up with Deliveroo to trial 30-minute grocery delivery

In a move that is sure to please thousands of Aussie shoppers, Coles and Deliveroo have teamed up to offer 30-minute deliveries on groceries.

Gone are the days of settling in for the night only to realise there’s no milk left for a late night cup of tea after the supermarket giant and home delivery service try and get a head start on Amazon.

Deliveroo, which typically delivers meals from restaurants will get a leg up on rivals Uber Eats and Menu Log, now delivering household staples like bread, eggs, vegetables, condiments, milk and a range of meal packs from Coles.

The trial is already underway but only in Melbourne at this point in time.

"Customers are more interested in fresh - they're interested in tonight's meal and tomorrow night's meal, not meals for the next fortnight," Retail consultant Steven Kulmar said.

It's a partnership that is sure to please plenty! Coles and Deliveroo have teamed up for a trial.

The move comes after a Coles store in Richmond South last month quietly teamed up with Uber to try and beef up their online offerings.

"Coles has been doing it [delivering] themselves with their own trucks and I suggest that they might be able achieve what they want at a lower cost with existing Uber infrastructure," University of Melbourne Management Professor Dawson Samson told WA Today.

"[That] is just a bunch of drivers driving their own cars - instead of Coles having its own dedicated fleet of vans."

With growing concerns as to what sort of influence Amazon will have on various industries, Aussie shoppers are likely to see various similar initiatives roll out in coming months.
