Classic trio to perform

WAAPA classical performance graduate Leah Guelfi is one of three singers to take to the stage tomorrow night.

Versatile, passionate and exceptional were just some of the terms used to describe classical singing trio Akanna ahead of their Mandurah debut this weekend.

The Perth-based three-piece Angelique Both, Leah Guelfi and Rebecca De Graauw are set to impress when they take to the stage on Saturday with their unique solo, duet and trio repertoire, says artistic director Petrina Bishop.

“With technical prowess, emotional expression and singing across a range of genres, Akanna invite you to take a journey with them, experiencing the wonders of music through soaring voices reaching unbelievable heights,” she said.

“They certainly will take you to a place to allow you to forget about your troubles for a time.”

From Gilbert and Sullivan’s Three Little Maids to The Flower Duet and For Good, Akanna step off stage and immerse themselves in the audience to share the story Ms Bishop said.

“Rebecca first learned to sing at the age of eight and received a music scholarship at Frederick Irwin Anglican School, while Leah graduated from WAAPA in 2011 and loves to explore different styles, particularly jazz,” she said.

“Angelique is a graduate of the Elder Conservatorium at Adelaide University — an engaging, vibrant and versatile performer active in the fields of singing, presenting and acting.”

Akanna will appear at 7.30pm at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre alongside ensemble Strike a Chord — a fourteen-strong group of ladies who sing jazz, pop, musical theatre, contemporary and classic musical favourites.
