Christmas Day weather forecast: Do you crank up the barbie or stay indoors?

With Christmas just around the corner, Australians are trying to decide whether to organise a family barbecue, an indoor roast lunch or a day at the beach.

So an early weather prediction can prove very handy for Christmas planning.

The good news is that most regions across the nation are set for a comfortable day in the mid 20s, with Weatherzone’s senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje saying no where is standing out as being particularly hot.

Sydney

Sydneysiders may be greeted by a cloudy morning with scattered showers on Christmas Day, similar to last year. The cloud could hang around for most of the day and it should be fairly mild with a top temperature of about 26 degrees, according to Weatherzone.

Consistently warm weather should be on the menu for most of the week beginning December 24, with top temperatures just above the mid 20s. Boxing Day could have an afternoon shower with a top of about 27 expected.

Melbourne

Melburnians are set for decent Christmas weather with a sunny day and top of about 25 degrees. A low of 15 degrees is forecast by Weatherzone with light south-westerly winds persisting throughout the day.

The lead-up to Christmas Day is also set to be mild in Melbourne with Christmas Eve in the mid-20s degrees with some morning rain.

Boxing Day is set to be around 26 degrees and sunny.

Brisbane

Christmas Day will be warm in Brisbane with a long-range forecast top temperature of about 30 degrees. There is the chance of a storm on what is likely to be a partly cloudy day.

Boxing Day will be sunny and warm in the high 20s across Brisbane.

Adelaide

Residents spending Christmas Day in Adelaide can expect a top of about 29 degrees and a low of 17, AccuWeather says.

There will be mostly sunny conditions with light winds. Boxing Day is set to have a top of 31 degrees with the sun shining.

Perth

Christmas Day won’t be anything out of the ordinary in Perth with a top of 32 degrees expected, according to Weatherzone.

The 25th will be mostly sunny across the state with some light south-westerly winds. Boxing Day will be a warm one with a top of 34 degrees.

Darwin

Darwin will have a top of around 33 degrees on Christmas Day, but heavy showers are expected.

Canberra

Canberra is expecting a warm 27 degrees on Christmas Day, Weatherzone has predicted, rising from a low of 13.

Hobart

The forecast top temperature for Hobart is a mild 22 degrees with clearing drizzle and light winds.
