Flynn’s final episode — at least for now — was the March 27 installment, in which Gibson began experiencing withdrawal from prescription drugs and left the firehouse to seek treatment. It’s currently unclear whether Flynn could return down the road, but the actor posted several behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram after last Wednesday’s episode, accompanied by the caption, “curtain call chicago fire.”
Flynn told our sister site Variety that it wasn’t his choice to leave the show: “Just like all the fans, I was sad to see Gibson leave. He was a character I very much enjoyed playing. I had a wonderful experience during my time on Chicago Fire and have great respect for the cast and crew and hope to team up with Dick Wolf again when the time is right.”
Flynn’s Gibson arrived in Episode 2 of the current 12th season, ostensibly replacing firefighter Blake Gallo, whose portrayer Alberto Rosende departed in the season opener. Chicago Fire also recently said goodbye to Kara Killmer, who exited the show in February after 10 seasons as paramedic Sylvie Brett.
Elsewhere in the #OneChicago universe, Tracy Spiridakos (aka detective Hailey Upton) will leave Chicago P.D. after the current 11th season, while Chicago Med has welcomed Luke Mitchell (Blindspot) in Season 9 as new doc Mitch Ripley.
