Carrot and Coffee-Dog join forces in ride across Australia

People driving between Esperance and the South-West recently may have seen an interesting pair of characters travelling on a bicycle.

Carrot and Coffee-Dog are travelling from Wanneroo to Darling Harbour, in Sydney, to raise money for and awareness of the Cancer Council and Multiple Sclerosis Australia.

Carrot and Coffee-Dog have so far travelled more than 1000km and have received fantastic support from the areas they have visited.

Coffee-Dog, a pure yellow kelpie, is nine years old and has been with owner Carrot for most of his life.

Carrot said Coffee-Dog was a great companion.

“I’m pretty lucky to be travelling with Coffee,” he said.

“No one wants to sponsor a 40-year-old redhead, but everyone loves Coffee-Dog.

“She is the one who is collecting all the money and making all the friends.

“People just seem to want to come up and give her a pat and put some money in the piggy bank around her neck.”

Carrot said he felt humbled by the support they had received so far.

“Everyone along the way has been just fantastic, ” he said.

“When we ask people along the way if they know a place we can set up camp, we often get invited into their homes.

“The people of Western Australia have been so fantastic I’m thinking of moving here.”

Despite the occasional setback, the pair manage to ride up to 80km per day and are making the journey without support vehicles.
