CCTV shows teen's lucky escape after smashes car into supermarket
A teenage boy is lucky to be alive after a car slammed into a Queensland supermarket, sending him flying and burying him beneath shelves.
The 15-year-old was working at an IGA in Townsville when the car burst through the front of the store.
Just after 7pm last night, Jack McLeod, was captured on the store's security cameras casually re-stocking shelves.
CCTV store footage shows the teen kneeling down to stock one of the shelves when the vehicle smashes through the wall directly in front of him.
The Toyota Rav 4 speared through the front of the Mundingburra store pinning him beneath the vehicle.
Customers and fellow staff members can then be seen on the footage rushing to pull him from beneath the wreckage.
Storeowner Adam Westbury said they were hoping for a speeding recovery for the boy.
"We believe he'll be ok but he did have some very nasty injuries."
McLeod has since been released from hospital with only minor injuries.
Speaking to 7 News the teen said: "She came through really fast so I just wasn't expecting that."
"All the shelving came down on top of me," recalls the lucky teen.
"I thought alright now everyone just has to dig me out," he told 7 News.
The elderly driver of the car, a regular at the store, accidentally hit the accelerator instead of reversing.
The teen is currently on school holidays for another couple of weeks.
He'll return to school with a few more bumps, bruises and memories of a night shift is never likely to forget.
