'We’re just broken': Girl, 2, dies in hot car while mum drinks with friend

A toddler has died after her mother left her in a hot car for several hours while she drank with a friend.

June Love Agosto, 2, was left in her mother’s car in Torrance, in the US state of California, last Saturday for up to five hours, Fox 11 reported.

Police say June’s mother left her in the car with the windows up and the heat on. She had placed a blanket over her daughter.

The mum then told police she got into another vehicle next to hers to drink with a friend before she fell asleep.

Waking up hours later, she found her daughter covered in vomit and burns to her body.

She placed her daughter on a patch of grass and tried to cool her down with water.

Paramedics rushed the child to hospital in full cardiac arrest, but she could not be saved.

According to Fox 11, the coroner has ruled the death as accidental.

The mother remains in police custody as investigations are ongoing.

June’s godmother Jessica Peterson-Burns said the family was devastated.

“Our family is broken, we just need prayers and we’re just broken,” she said.

The police report reveals the mother told police she was a former drug addict, but went through rehabilitation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family to support them through their ordeal.

The page describes June as “full of life and loved by so many”.
