Burchett shows off homemade longboard to AOC
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) crossed the aisle Tuesday, showing off his homemade longboard on the floor of the House and to progressive colleague Rep. Alexandria Ocacio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
“It’s upcycling!” he told Ocacio-Cortez, with the pair posing for a photo after votes.
Burchett said making boards is a hobby, and that this model was built in his free time over the weekends from bamboo wood he originally found on the side of the road.
The Tennessee conservative first mentioned his unique undertaking back in December, when he told The Hill about his Christmas wish list: “I make bamboo skateboards. I really need some new clamps.”
Ocacio-Cortez and Burchett are unlikely friendly colleagues, given their polar opposite political beliefs. They can be frequently seen chatting with each other around the Capitol.
