When it comes to DIYs the easiest transformation is often the most effective. This was exactly the case when shopper Simone MacDonald decided to 'glow up' a simple Bunnings stool.
Sharing the results on a popular Facebook page, Simone — a teacher who loves home styling and DIYs — completely refreshed the $79 green cement stool giving it an impressive new look.
“Little Friday DIY for you guys! Bought this cement stool for $79 from Bunnings and painted her white to fit our outdoor area. Happy summer,” she wrote alongside a before and after shot of the budget stool.
Simone’s hack post quickly went viral picking up more than 2.4K likes with hundreds of comments.
'It's what I've been looking for!'
The simple yet extremely effective hack was praised by other DIY fans who said they’d been looking for a similar style for ages without any luck.
“Oh my lawd. Exactly what I've been looking for, for nearly a month - every.damn.day! Thank you,” one excited person wrote, adding they’d immediately gone to pick some up from Bunnings.
“I have 4 of these in other patterns/colours and they have discoloured so much so this might be a good fix,” added another.
“Omg thank you for sharing!! I will definitely be doing this,” commented another, while another added: “Love this! You’ve inspired me to do the same.”
How she did it
Simone, who works as a primary school teacher but also does freelance work interior styling, showcases all her home renovation hacks on her Instagram page @simteriorsandesign.
She also shared the easy DIY on her page saying she’d been wanting to try it out for some time.
“I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect outdoor stool but they’re either ridiculously priced or kinda ugly!” She said on her page.
“Then I saw @ourcoastalhaven_ do this @bunnings stool hack and knew I had to try it. Power of paint baby!”
Both her posts were flooded with questions from fellow DIYers asking how she did it and what paint she used.
“It’s just normal exterior paint, it’s quite textured the stool so it didn’t need any additional texture,” she said, adding she used Dulux natural white exterior paint and didn't use a primer, but gave it a "quick wipe down" before painting.
Not only was the hack simple to do, but the finished job rivalled more expensive designs ranging in price upward from $200. Plus, the stool can also be used as a chic side table.
And it’s not the first time Simone has changed things up with a splash of paint to suit her incredible outdoor area.
After receiving dozens of comments about the styling of her outdoor space, Simone also revealed she had painted her feature pots which were from Bunnings too.
“They’re from Bunnings - Eden lightweight range,” she wrote when asked about the trio of pots. “It was beige but I painted them white too!”
Her hack sent keen DIYers racing to Bunnings to copy her idea, with some already sharing their own versions.
"Off to Bunnings I go," one person wrote, while another said, "Thanks for the inspiration" alongside a picture of the same stool painted black.
So there you have it - when in doubt get the paint out, it certainly works for Simone’s stylish backyard!
