Brigitte Macron's daughter on her mum falling for 15-year-old Emmanuel

Their love story is as unconventional as they come, and now the daughter of the French First Lady, Brigitte Macron, has spoken about her mother’s 25-year age gap with her husband, French President Emmanuel Macron.

Brigitte Macron was a 40-year-old drama teacher when she fell in love with Emmanuel, who was a 15-year-old student at the time.

Their relationship sent shockwaves through the community, mainly because of the age gap and the fact that he was in the same class as her teenage daughter, Laurence.

The now 64-year-old’s youngest daughter, Tiphanie, was just nine years old at the time and now at the age of 34, she’s spoken in a new documentary called Brigitte Macron: A French Novel, about her mother’s love life.

“They were quite smitten and it was quite obvious between them and very difficult,” she said in the TV documentary.

Tiphanie went on to reveal that the first time now 40-year-old Emmanuel’s name was mentioned in their house was when her older sister, Laurence, came home from school one day and said: “Mummy, there is a crazy boy in our class who knows everything about everything.”

Things moved fast and when Emmanuel was just 16, he is said to have professed his love for married mum-of-three Brigitte.

His parents are believed to have pleaded with Brigitte to wait until he was 18 to pursue a relationship with him, and she is reported in the documentary as saying: “I can’t promise you anything’.

Emmanuel is then reported to have been sent to Paris to finish his studies but was adamant that one day he would marry Brigitte.

“You cannot get rid of me. I will come back and I will marry you,” his biographers claim he told his love at the time.

Brigitte’s husband, André-Louis Auzière, reportedly left the family home after finding out about Brigitte’s love affair with her daughter’s classmate.

Brigitte and Emmanuel maintained a long-distance relationship for 13 years while he studied in Paris and they were married in 2007.

“Emmanuel’s only fault is to be younger than me,” she said in a 2017 interview with Elle magazine, just after her husband was elected as president.

“When I read things about our relationship, I always have the impression that I am reading someone else’s story. Yet, our story is so simple.

“If I hadn’t made that choice to be with him, I would have been missing out on life.”

Emmanuel went on to become France’s youngest president when he was elected in 2017.
