Brave Aussie fends off crocodile with a frying pan

A publican from the Northern Territory is being hailed for his bravery after he confronted a crocodile with just a frypan.

Kai Hansen is the owner of Goat Island and the Goat Island Lodge, which sits on the Adelaide River about an hour from Darwin, in the Northern Territory.

A video of Mr Hansen's latest interaction with a crocodile has gone viral on social media after it was shared by Airborne Solutions Helicopter Tours.

It appears Goat Island Lodge is one stop on the company's Heli Pub Crawl tour.

In the video, Mr Hansen is seen standing with just a frying pan in hand and a crocodile runs at him.

Mr Hansen whacks the crocodile's snout twice before it scurries off and into the water.

"Goat Island isn’t your average pub and King Kai isn’t your average publican," Airborne Solutions Helicopter Tours wrote on Facebook.

"You just never know what he’ll serve up next."

In a video shared by a patron in the comments on Airborne Solutions Helicopter Tours' post, Mr Hansen is seen walking down the stairs and straight up to the crocodile.

One of Goat Island Lodge's attractions is a crocodile named Casey, who sometimes comes to feed on the island's river bank.

However, Casey is not the croc seen in the now-viral video, it's her son, Fred.

Mr Hansen told the NT News Fred has become aggressive of late, after he started feeding the croc over 15 years ago. Now Fred has stolen Casey's spot on the island.

As a result Casey started going further up the riverbank, which is a bit of a problem because her new spot is right where people walk past.

"Casey is the important one around here, Fred is a pain in the backside," Mr Hansen told NT News.

He is going to have Fred removed from the island and he also admitted this wasn't the first time he used a frying pan to fend of a crocodile.

Mr Hansen used to feed Casey when she was smaller, but one day she attacked him and he used a frying pan to fight her off.

"That’s why when these problems started I put a frying pan next to the stairs where people come in," he told NT News.

“It’s still sitting there because she may still remember the pain that I caused the first time.”

Casey even ate Mr Hansen's beloved dog, a small terrier, Pippa, or 'Dumb Blonde' back in 2018.

Pippa had spent years chasing Casey and Mr Hansen even has videos of her shenanigans on his website and while he was sad about his dog's demise, he wasn't mad at Casey.

"She's not doing something wrong, she's just doing what crocs do," he told the ABC back in 2018.
