Boyfriend Charged After Woman Was Shoved into N.Y.C. Subway Tracks, Leading to Amputations

Christian Valdez, 35, was charged with attempted murder and felony assault

The man accused of pushing a woman onto a subway track after a “domestic dispute” Saturday morning has been charged with attempted murder and felony assault, the New York City Police Department says.

The woman, 29, was struck by a southbound 3 train at the Fulton Street station in downtown Manhattan, police tell PEOPLE. Authorities responded to the incident at 10:26 a.m. and found the woman conscious and responsive.

The suspect, identified by police as Christian Valdez, 35, was arrested that night. ABC 7 reports that Valdez is the victim’s boyfriend. The outlet reported that Valdez was arrested after he contacted his parole officer about the incident.

PIX 11 reports that Valdez was arraigned and pleaded not guilty.

Police say the woman was transported to the hospital in stable condition, though NBC 4 reports that she had both legs amputated as a result of the train strike, citing MTA sources.

No. 2 and No. 3 trains were delayed and rerouted as a result of the incident, the MTA previously said.
