Boy, 2, kicked out of stolen car at supermarket by suspected thief on the run

A suspected thief on the run in Perth has booted a toddler out of a car while fleeing from police.

The two-year-old boy, named as Ryan by police, was in the back of a Holden Commodore stolen from a residence at Forrestfield, in the city’s southeast, on Saturday about 11.55am.

Ten minutes later, Ryan was found at a supermarket in the same suburb but the car was nowhere to be seen.

Someone found the little boy and called police.

“The information we currently have suggests the stolen vehicle arrived at the supermarket, stopped and the child was pushed out of one of the back doors,” Western Australia Police said in a statement.

The Holden was found damaged at nearby Gooseberry Hill after 12.30pm without the driver who police believe fled on foot.

A man, who is believed to be in his 20s, was later arrested in the nearby Maida Vale area and taken to Midland Police Station to be interviewed.

Ryan’s mum, who does not wish to be named, thanked everyone for helping track down her little boy.

“On behalf of our family we would like to thank the police, the media and the members of the community who helped share the messages about Ryan on social media,” she said.

“Particularly, we would like to thank the people who came to Ryan’s assistance when he was left outside the supermarket.

“The quick response from everyone involved has resulted in us having Ryan back in our arms and we can’t thank everyone enough.”
