Boy 'dies from smell of cooking fish'

Authorities suspect a young boy who died on Tuesday may have had an allergic reaction to the smell of fish which was being cooked.

Investigators were told Camron Jean-Pierre, 11, was allergic to fish and someone had been cooking it in the home in Brooklyn, Tribune Media Wire reports.

Emergency officials found the 11-year-old unresponsive and unconscious at his home after responding to reports about an unconscious boy at 7.24pm.

He was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

According to police, it is thought the boy did not consume any fish, but may still have had a reaction to it.

An allergist from NYU Langone Health, Dr Purvi Parikh, said allergic reactions could be prompted in some people who inhaled near certain foods, Tribune Media Wire reports.

However, allergic reactions suffered this way are reportedly rare.

The exact cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.
