Boy, 12, charged over house fire

A 12-year-old boy has been arrested following a suspicious fire in an unoccupied house in the Whitsundays.

Police were called to a Shute Harbour Road home in Jubilee Pocket following reports a fire that had broken out at 4pm on Tuesday.

Firefighters were assisted by police as they worked to contain the blaze.

The house was known to be unoccupied, and no physical injuries were reported.

A number of juveniles were spoken to by police before a 12-year-old boy was arrested.

He was charged with one count of arson.

He will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act, a Queensland Police spokesman said.
