Body found in NSW river after man jumps from a cliff

A body has been found in the Hawkesbury River after a man jumped off a cliff into the water.

Emergency services were called to the river near the small village of Leets Vale, northwest of Sydney, about 2.50pm (local time) on Saturday when the man failed to resurface.

A search operation near Wisemans Ferry took place involving Hawkesbury Police Area Command, Blue Mountains Police Rescue, Police Divers, NSW SES and NSW Rural Fire Service.

The body of a man, who is believed to be 26 years old, was found submerged in the river by divers just after 6.30pm, police said in a statement.

He is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
