Blinken urges Congo, Rwanda to de-escalate -State Department

U.S. Secretary of State Blinken departs on trip to the Middle East and Asia from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland

(Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday spoke separately with Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame and urged both to de-escalate tensions, the State Department said.

Blinken discussed the volatile situation and worsening humanitarian crisis along the border between the two nations and urged both sides to withdraw troops, the State Department said.
