Bizarre way to get revenge on ex this Valentine's Day

A zoo has come up with a unique way for people to get revenge on ex-lovers this Valentine’s Day, by naming a cockroach after their former partner.

The Helmsley Conservation Centre in western Kent in the UK, has launched the ‘Name a Cockroach’ campaign in time for Valentine’s Day on February 14.

The program allows people to pay just under $3 to name an insect after their ex-lover, taking pettiness to a whole new level.

“Now, we know it’s a little over a month away, but we know you like to be organised,” the Helmsley Conservation Centre posted on Facebook on January 12.

“For those that don’t quite require revenge, there’s another way to make you feel better about getting back at your ex this Valentine’s Day.

“The HCC is offering the chance to name a cockroach in honour of your, or your friend’s worthless ex ‘someone’ on this special holiday of love.”

The zoo has set up an online shop where people can purchase the rights to name a cockroach for themselves or as a gift to a lovelorn friend.

Customers bestow the creatures with their ex’s first name and are issued with a certificate, which can be pinned on a ‘cockroach board’ at the zoo.

Social media users were delighted by the spiteful gift suggestion.

“Take that, Olly!” one Facebook user posted.

“Great idea but I might run out of cash soon,” another wrote.

The proceeds will be used to raise money for the zoo’s projects.
