A man has died following a fatal fall while trying to enter a North Sydney unit.

A man has died after falling from a North Sydney unit, with police probing the bizarre circumstances that led to his fatal plunge.

Police were first called to the Shirley St unit in Wollstonecraft at 11pm on Friday after reports of a domestic incident between a man and woman, both 41.

The man was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station and later released pending further investigation.

Just after 6am on Saturday, police were called to the same unit after reports someone was trying to gain entry to the property.

When officers attended, the same 41-year-old man was seen lying injured on the driveway below the unit.

Officers immediately rendered first aid until paramedics arrived, who then took the man to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

The man died from his injuries at 11pm that night.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said a critical incident team, comprised of officers from Kuring Gai Police Area Command, will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“That investigation will be subject to independent review,” the spokeswoman said.

“All information will be provided to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading to the man’s death.”
