'Don't shoot Bigfoot', police warn after reported sighting
Authorities in South Carolina in the US have warned their followers on Facebook about not shooting 'Bigfoot' after an alleged sighting late last week.
According to Fox 8, a group called Bigfoot 911 reported a sighting of a "large bi-pedal animal covered in hair" on Friday in McDowell County.
John Bruner reportedly wrote in a closed Facebook group: “The angle of the moon was shining straight down on the road and something big stepped into view … I turned my headlamp on and I saw a large bi-pedal animal covered in hair. It took one step into the woods, (then) I took off running toward where it went into the woods.”
The Greenville Police Department issued the warning along with a video from 2015 when a resident claimed to see the elusive beast. They obviously remain skeptical about its existence.
The police department wrote: "After watching this video from nearby Boone, North Carolina, Facebook followers and friends, I think we can say with some confidence that proof of Bigfoot still eludes us.
"If you see Bigfoot, please do not shoot at him/her, as you'll most likely be wounding a fun-loving and well-intentioned person, sweating in a gorilla costume."
A man has now come forward claiming he was the hairy animal seen by the Bigfoot 911 group, The McDowell News reports.
Gawain MacGregor, from Minnestoa, said he was in the woods performing a shamanistic ritual.
Mr MacGregor told The McDowell News, “Shamanistic traditions are the oldest in the world so to me it’s not that out of the ordinary.
“For me, it’s no different than going to church on Sunday.”
According to The McDowell News Mr MacGregor, writes about an ancient character called Enkidu in a blog and wears a special garment for his ritual which is created from raccoon skins.
He reportedly tries to connect on a spiritual level with Enkidu or Sasquatch.
