What's big and orange and experiencing a surprise surge in popularity? No, not Donald Trump but this season's tinted It sunglasses, which feature lenses to match your Aperol Spritz.

When couple of the moment Tom Holland and Zendaya took their seats to watch the men’s finals of the BNP Paribas Open in California earlier this month, it was not (as is customary) only the Dune actress holding court, but Holland, who amped up his style credentials with a pair of orange-tinged shades.

This block-coloured accessory — the best of which come acetate framed, often in aviator silhouettes — are quickly proving themselves a go-to style to elevate a spring outfit. They work for daytime (Holland paired his nicely with an “espresso” knit summer shirt from London brand Percival) but, as the Oscars red carpet proved, are passable at evening affairs because paler coloured lenses do not black-out the eye entirely.

Top Academy actors that got the memo on March 10 included Matthew McConaughey, who wore Garrett Leight’s Torrey Sun style (€325, garrettleight.eu) as well as The Holdovers’ breakout star Dominic Sessa, who wore Tom Ford’s Turner aviators (£345, luisaviaroma.com) to the Vanity Fair after party. London fashion designer Harris Reed, famous for his gender fluid designs, wore the same pair to Chioma Nnadi’s British Vogue launch party on March 14, while Lewis Hamilton opted for a string of different, sunset tinted options during the F1 Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia this month. All this is to say — a great breadth of boys can pull these off, no one should be intimidated.

For those interested in what the catwalks had to say, these glasses were a hit — they cropped up at the Spring Summer 2024 collections of Burberry, Roberto Cavalli and Tom Ford. It came as no surprise at the latter, which has been led by Peter Hawkings since Ford stepped down last year. What’s Hawkings' trademark look? You guessed it — a sharp suit and a orange tinted shade.
