Locals furious after posting letters in mailbox neglected for six months

A little letterbox has caused big problems for residents in a town in northeast Victoria after their mail sat undelivered for six months.

Residents of Beechworth had their letters and invoices sitting in the box for six months because Australia Post hadn’t been collecting it.

Confused resident Sam Westra had posted his phone back to Telstra and was told they didn’t receive it within a week he’d receive a $900 bill.

“So, I popped it in the mail box out the front and then yeah when I received a $900 Telstra bill I was pretty surprised,” he said.

Joanne Westra said it took residents “many months” to work out what the problem was.

Australia Post has apologised, blaming the mistake on a new team taking over the mail route in October.
