A 20-year-old swimmer has died after getting into difficulty at sea.
North Wales Police say they were called to the Barmouth area of Gwynedd at 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday.
They were told a man had got into difficulty while swimming in the sea.
As well as police officers, the search also involved the RNLI and HM Coastguard.
The swimmer was found shortly after 8pm and was taken to hospital via air ambulance, where he later died.
Officers have issued an appeal for information and have asked any witnesses to get in touch.
Detective Inspector Richard Griffith said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident who hasn't already spoken to police or may have any footage to contact the police.
"Our thoughts remain with the man's family who we continue to support, and the coroner has been informed."
