Mattel Just Dropped A Bunch Of Barbie Dolls Inspired By Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," So Here Are The Actors Vs. The Dolls
So, I think it goes without saying at this point that Barbie is the most highly anticipated film of the summer of 2023.
Directed by Greta Gerwig and written by Greta and Noah Baumbach, Barbie is set to follow Barbie (Margot Robbie) as she lives in Barbie Land with Ken (Ryan Gosling) and other Barbies and Kens. However, one day, Barbie decides to take a trip to the real world.
The official synopsis for the film, per Warner Bros., is literally: "To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you're a Ken."
The film hasn't even been released yet but has already taken the internet by storm. Posters revealing the various Barbies and Kens went viral, the tagline for the movie created a new Twitter meme, and every single trailer gets people more and more excited.
Basically everything about the movie so far has been better than the last thing that was released, and now, Mattel just dropped a whole new line of Barbie and Ken dolls, and some houses and cars, inspired by the movie.
Which is honestly so exciting considering the attention to detail Greta, Margot, costume designer Jacqueline Durran, and the entire team who worked on Barbie put into honoring the legacy of Barbie — like, they literally re-created the first outfit Barbie wore when Mattel launched the toy in 1959.
So, here are a bunch of side-by-sides that show the Barbie movie actors (and sets) vs. the dolls they've now inspired:
