Bali holiday turns into nightmare after tourist's innocent mistake
Hamish Crocker was unable to get out of the exposed sewage drain after he fell in.
A picturesque trip to Bali took a literal dark turn for one Kiwi tourist after he fell down a hole in the ground, leaving him with broken ribs and covered in questionable dirt from the sewage drain.
Auckland man Hamish Crocker was enjoying his holiday with his partner when he accidentally fell down an exposed hole on the street, unable to get himself out of the confined space.
"[I] ate absolute sh*t and ended up being pulled out of a drainage sewer," he said. "26 stitches, three broken ribs, and not exactly how the trip intended to go."
In images posted online, Mr Crocker can be seen lying on a hospital bed with bloody grazes and a deep cut on his shin which required stitches from medical staff. He is now pleading with other tourists to do the one simple thing which saved him from a much worse fate.

'Easy and cheap' decision saved ordeal being much worse
After his experience, Mr Crocker reflected on how thankful he was that he had medical cover for his holiday.
"Please if you’re going travelling this summer, get travel insurance," Mr Crocker warned, explaining it was an "easy and cheap" decision which freed him from "a huge hospital bill" he simply would not have been able to afford if the incident had happened without it.
"You never know when you’ll walk around a corner and fall in a hole. The literal kind," he said.
After the accident, Mr Crocker was still able to enjoy his holiday and appeared to attend a driving event and visit temples.
