Baby, toddler caught in horror explosion
Two young children have been rushed to hospital after a bonfire exploded in northern Victoria.
Emergency services were called to Industrial Crescent in Nagambie, 122km north of Melbourne, at 7:15pm on Sunday following reports of an explosion at an industrial estate.
They arrived to the block of land to find a woman, a three-year-old child and a three-month old baby suffering burns.
Officers were told the woman and children were “standing in the vicinity of the fire when it exploded”.
The two children were taken to Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition overnight, while the woman was assessed at the scene.
A man who was also present at the explosion was uninjured.
“Mitchell Crime Investigation Unit detectives will investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and reports a fridge or white goods item had been placed on the fire prior to the incident,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said in a statement.
Police are expected to refer the matter to the Environmental Protection Agency and local council.
