Baby critical after horror stabbing: police

A woman has been charged with attempted murder after a three-month-old child was allegedly stabbed at a suburban home southwest of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to the property in Ripley about 5.30am on Saturday, where they located the infant with stab wounds to their abdomen.

Police provided first aid to the child before they were rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

A 26-year-old woman, who resides with the child, was taken into police custody without incident.

She is expected to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.

In a statement, Queensland police said a crime scene was declared at the house and that investigations into the circumstances of the incident were continuing.
