Australia Post promo video slammed days after Finance Department ad bombs

A series of promotional videos that were supposed to lure university graduates to Australia Post and the Department of Finance have instead attracted rounds of ridicule across social media.

The production company behind a widely lambasted video for the Department of Finance is getting a second kicking from the keyboard warriors after Australia Post revealed its offering.

In the new video a graduate called Grace and a disembodied voice called Tom take a tour of Australia Post HQ in Melbourne.

Grace’s favourite “triple shot almond milk decaf chai latte with a touch of honey”, the company pool table (which Grace profanes) and a graduate inexplicably experimenting with virtual reality appear to have topped the list of gripes.

But, coming on the back of revelations the postal service’s outgoing CEO was getting paid $5.6 million per year, many have been questioning how the company manages to afford VR headsets, pool tables and garden lounges.

Many wondered what it was the postal service was hacking and why it needed virtual reality to do it. Photo: Screenshot

YouTube commenters have, as usual, been the most strident in their criticisms but the Twitterati and Facebook viewers have also been dining out on the opportunity to again rip in to a cringey government ad campaign.

The ABC reports the Department of Finance’s Game Changers ad cost $4000 to produce, which came as part of a $37,000 four year marketing services contract with Sydney firm Creative Together.

It is unclear how much Australia Post’s Seriously More than You Think offering cost to produce.
