As the cost of living climbs, there are some little-known savings that could help you claw back hundreds of dollars.

Many insurers, energy retailers and telcos currently offer a variety of rewards to new and existing customers, including sign-up credits, frequent flyer points and discounts on everyday expenses.

Compare the Market’s Noémi Hadnagy said Aussies were potentially missing out on hundreds of dollars worth of savings and may not even know it.

“Our analysis shows that some rewards and programs entitle you to potentially significant discounts on everyday expenses, which could help households stay afloat as they battle rising costs,” Hadnagy said.

“It’s imperative that you check which perks and rewards are available through your energy retailer, mobile phone provider, insurer and more.”

What rewards are on offer?

The programs, perks and rewards will vary, so Hadnagy urged Aussies to check what they were already entitled to.

For example, Everyday Insurance customers are currently entitled to 10 per cent off their grocery shop once a month when they link their Everyday Rewards Card.

Virgin Money insurance customers can earn Velocity Points which can be redeemed for travel, while Budget Direct customers can get discounts on dining, activities and gift cards through the insurer's rewards program.

Energy retailers like Alinta and AGL offer customers reward points that can be used to nab discounts on shopping, dining and more, while many health insurers have reward programs that offer discounts on gym memberships, prescription glasses, meals, shopping and more.

Hadgany said “every dollar saved counts” as the cost of living continues to bite.

“We don’t want to see people paying more than they need to, and these perks can make a world of difference for households doing it tough. Use these incentives to your advantage,” she said.

“If you’re paying for things like insurance and energy anyway, it doesn’t make sense to waste these bargains that are available.”
