Aussie TikToker slammed for ‘complaining’ about top tourist spot: ‘Missed the point’

TikTokers say an Aussie hiker “missed the whole point” after taking to social media to share her recent visit to a Sydney icon made famous by Instagram.

Jess Henderson, the founder of activewear brand MPWR, sparked fierce backlash online when she claimed the Figure Eight Pools in the Royal National Park, an hour south of the city, were “not worth the 6km hike.”

“Whoever told you the Figure Eight pools were bucket list worthy is lying to you!!” she said in a clip on TikTok, “and let me show you why.”

Taking more than 2.5 million followers on a video tour of her “two hour round trip”, Jess highlighted the “very steep rocks” and “never ending” path, before a beach “that you have to walk across,” and “a lot more rocks.”

Once Jess and her partner had arrived at their destination, she exclaimed that “this is the realistic reality of the Figure Eight pools” while revealing a series of rock pools with cloudy water inside.

“So we walked all the way here for this pool,” she said. “This one’s kind of pretty but still not going in. Time to go straight back to the car.”

Users shutdown TikToker

Several TikTokers were quick to side with Jess that the Instagrammable location was actually “nothing special.”

“[The] pools are unimpressive and small,” one person claimed. “I never understood the hype,” said another.

“I 100 percent agree,” someone else added. “I still have trauma memories from that hike.”

“We went more than halfway and then we just stopped,” another admitted. “It was never ending! [We] went straight back to our car.”

But an overwhelming number of users disagreed with the TikToker.

“It’s an amazing natural spot with really cool geology.” one person wrote. “Did you expect to walk into a heavily edited Instagram picture?”

“Well worth it in my opinion, natural and beautiful,” another said. “Why complain, it all looks great,” someone else added.

“I think you would’ve had more fun if you went into the hike with the mindset of enjoying the journey not the destination,” another commented. “It’s all amazing

While others suggested that Jess should have picked a better time of day to visit.

“If you go in the morning, it is very beautiful,” one person wrote. “To be fair, it looks like you went on an overcast day,” said another.

“Maybe people should do a little research about the hike before just venturing out,” another suggested, while someone else pointed out to the activewear founder that at least it was “good exercise though.”
